The estrum is an evergreen shrub with ,leaves with a soft tomentum (felt-like) covering. In contrast to its flowers' fresh scent, the leaves are characterized by an unpleasant odour. The tubular flowers, about 2 cm. In length, gather in clusters that grow at the tops of the stems. The flower's colours vary from purplish-red to deep pink. Its pollinators are hummingbirds.
