Aloë brevifolia

English name: Short-leaved aloe

Latin name: Aloë brevifolia

Family: Xanthorrhoeaceae - Xanthorrhoeaceae

Origin: Republic of South Africa

This variety of aloe, in its natural environment, grows on dry loamy ground. There are small populations on rocky coastal slopes. Short, growing close to the ground,  it produces many suckers at the base of its shoots, thus forming large clusters. The leaves are short and fleshy, with delicate teeth at the edges. A flowering stem appears in November, with bright-red flowers. The short-leaved aloe is an endangered species in its natural habitat, but is popular under cultivation elsewhere.
