Ficus pumila

English names: Creeping fig/Climbing fig

Latin name: Ficus pumila

Family: Fig - Moraceae

Origin: East Asia

The creeping fig is a tropical evergreen vine with small (3 cm. long), round or ovate leaves. It climbs up surfaces with the help of small roots, and takes root easily when it creeps along the ground. The stems can reach 4 metres in length. Juvenile leaves are much smaller and thinner than adult leaves, which appear on older specimens. The fruit of the creeping fig tree plant is used in Thai cuisine.
