Justicia brandegeeana

English names: Shrimp plant, false hop

Latin name: Justicia brandgeeana

Rodzina: Acanthus - Acanthaceae

Origin: Mexico

The shrimp plant is an evergreen shrub that grows up to a metre tall (seldom taller), with thin, drooping stems. The leaves are green and oval, 3 – 7.5 cm. long. The white flowers extend from red and salmon-coloured bracts reminiscent of a shrimp. The plant may flower for long periods, with short breaks between flowerings. The flowers lure butterflies and hummingbirds, which are its main pollinators.
