Asparagus umbellatus

English name: Asparagus umbellatus

Latin name: Asparagus umbellatus

Family: Asparagus - Asparagaceae

Origin:  Micronesia

The asparagus umbellatus is a perennial with a stem that is woody at is base. The stems branch out and reach a height of up to a metre, climbing its supports. From the nodes grow bunches of cladodes: flattened, slender stems that give the plant its “fluffy” character. Small, cream-coloured flowers appear in July and August. This popular asparagus is grown for its decorative stems, which may be cut and added to flower arrangements and bouquets.
