1838 - Hipolit Cegielski

A Poznań businessman and Polish philologist, social activist, journalist and politician. After his studies in Berlin, he worked as a teacher of Polish and ancient languages (Greek and Latin) at the Poznań school from which he himself had graduated. During this time, he carried out intensive academic work in linguistics and didactics. Apart from many articles, he published an extended work, O słowie polskim i koniugacjach jego (“The Polish Word and its Conjugations”) in 1842. He also wrote a Greek grammar textbook (1843) and Nauke poezji (“Studies in Poetry”) in 1845, which has been reprinted many times.
