V International Competition in Traditional Driving

V INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION IN TRADITIONAL DRIVING
in memory ofPRINCESS DAISY VON PLESS
under Honorary Patronage of BOLKO VI FÜRST VON PLESSGRAF VON HOCHBERGFREIHERR ZU FÜRSTENSTEIN
KSIĄŻ CASTLE, WAŁBRZYCHPOLAND
15-16 JULY 2017

From the experience of past competitions in traditional driving in Książ it is clear that this place is especially predestined to organize such types of sport events of cultural dimension. Historical, aesthetic and landscape values, as in nowhere else in Poland, compose a wonderful background for traditional driving and historical equestrian vehicles as well as the aesthetics of classical clothing worn by competition participants. According to latest statistics data, Castle Książ was visited by about 10 thousand spectators. This indicates it would be difficult to find any other similar place in Poland which could ensure similar attendance, even if the competition itself was not the main event. This fact confirms promotional values of the competition for the evolution of traditional driving in Poland. Each year there is a steady growth in the complexity of rig preparations, as well as increasingly interesting and valuable vintage vehicles.

Despite the distance and significant competition, we strive to vastly popularize traditional driving competition in Western Europe in hopes to draw foreign participants to Ksiaż, as local attractiveness and organizational efficiency is continuously improved. I think it is favourable that this year’s International Competition in Traditional Driving is held under the Honorary Patronage of His Enlightened Excellency Bolko VI Fürst Von Pless Graf Von Hochberg Freiherr Zu Fürstenstein – a person who is especially linked by historical and family ties and having titles of Honorary Citizen of Wałbrzych and Pless, grandson of Princess Daisy von Pless – a great enthusiast of equestrian sports and a nominal patron of our competition since its inception.
