1997, 2000 - Aleksander Kwaśniewski, President of the Republic of Poland

A Polish politician, and President of the Republic of Poland from 23 December 1995 to 23 December 2005 (holding the office for two terms). During the time of the Polish People’s Republic, he was active in the United Polish Workers’ Party, and a minister in the governments of Zbigniew Messner and Mieczysław Rakowski. Aleksander Kwaśniewski was also a founder of the Social Democrats of the Republic of Poland, as well as a member of the  first and second Parliaments after 1991. It was Aleksander Kwaśniewski who ratified Poland’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on 26 July, 1999. As a politician, he has ties and close associations with the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD). He has twice been a guest at Książ.
