1. Lower Silesian Festival of Mystery and Treasure

The amazing event took place between 16 and 18 August, 2013, as a three-day meeting with those who have been involved for years in searches for lost treasures and heritage items, and the secrets of Lower Silesia and its history.

1. Lower Silesian Festival of Mystery and Treasure, a project authored by Joanna Lamparska, journalist and traveller, author of numerous books about the secrets of Lower Silesia. For several years, she has dealt with the secrets of Lower Silesia to promote the region.

The festival presents issues related to the region’s lost cultural treasures in a way that is interesting, accessible, thought-provoking and above all, comprehensive. Its purpose is to make Lower Silesia more interesting for visitors from Poland and abroad.

The event took place between 16 and 18 August, 2013, as a three-day meeting with those who have been involved for years in searches for lost treasures and heritage items, and the secrets of Lower Silesia and its history. Among the speakers were academics, journalists, authors, explorers and guides.

The core of the festival consisted of talks by invited speakers. They were interspersed with screenings of documentary films on the lost cultural treasures and secrets of Lower Silesia. To accompany the talks and film presentations there were further attractions, such as a treasure-hunting contest in Wałbrzych, a presentation of exploring equipment, historical re-enactments, an exhibition of Lower Silesian castles, the Lower Silesia “X Files”, displays of fireworks and air acrobatics.

It was on the third floor of Książ Castle, in the modern Conference-Cultural Centre, that two sets of lectures took place:

- “Treasure is money” – during which we learned what “gold rushes” involved (J. Lamparska),  about controversial  treasure hunts in ”Treasures and Scandals” (T. Bonek), why Lower Silesia has been found to be the “key to the fate of Poland’s cultural treasures” (Dr. Robert Kudelski) and what the “Generals’ Golden Dream” (Dr. Jacek Kowalski) was about.

- “Breakfast with Focus”, where journalists from this popular monthly publication related sensational events from previous centuries. Guests went deeply into the subject of “The Mysteries of the Teutonic Knights” (Michał Wójcik and Maciej Łubieński), heard of “Questers of Quests” (Adam Wegłoski) and experienced the “Exploration of a ship wrecked in the waters of Sierra Leone” (Marcin Jamkowski).
